Idk how to tell yall. BUT DO NOT
EVER BUY ANY USED / OPEN BOX AirPods. 80% of them are scams and I have been scammed thru the AirPods Pros 3 thru EBay and BEST BUY. Best Buy initially didn't approve my refund and I had to argue with BEST BUY to get a refund as the IMEI on the AirPods was different than the box, as people buy new AirPods and swap them with fake ones. Trust me spend the extra $50-100 and get the real official brand new pair and save yourself a favor in the future.

These AirPods Pro 3 open box units can arrive close to new, with intact tips, active warranty, latest firmware, strong call quality, and even the heart rate sensor working. The earbuds also stay in the ears well, and pairing in store or checking the serial number before leaving can confirm they are legitimate and not tied to another account. The main risk is open box fraud or mishandling, including swapped or fake earbuds, serial number mismatches, and Find My lock issues that can make returns painful. A careful in store inspection matters here.

Common Questions (5)

Try pairing and checking Find My immediately in the store; if they are still tied to another account, return them on the spot. If you already have them, Apple support may be able to replace the earbuds and case through an express replacement case when the issue is tied to Find My locking.

Yes. Open-box units can arrive swapped with fakes, mismatched earbuds, or a serial number that does not match the box or invoice. A quick check is to pair them with an iPhone in store and verify the serial numbers, Find My status, and that both earbuds and the case match before leaving.
BoastfulMint676 Theultra85 Enewarf EfficientAction886
The main savings is usually about $50-$100, but open-box AirPods carry a real risk of swapped, locked, scratched, or incomplete units. Buying new avoids the serial-number, Find My, and return headaches that can come with open-box purchases.
SuplexCity BoastfulMint676 Keats852 mvnjpy
Check that iPhone pairing launches the Apple animation, Find My attaches correctly, ANC and Transparency produce an audible change, firmware updates stick, and left/right earbuds do not share the same serial number. Missing call controls, automatic ear detection, or a case-only Find My result are strong warning signs.
xilluzionx mama2max mama2max satyenshah
Apple support can sometimes replace a Find My-locked set through an express replacement case, including both earbuds and the charging case, and the warranty can transfer to the replacement serial number. If the issue is only account locking rather than hardware failure, coverage is not guaranteed and may depend on support handling.

I have had too many bad experiences with open-box AirPods. Not worth the $50 bucks you are saving over new ones.

I suspect they wouldn't have any of the features of the AirPods like noise cancellation and transparency. When you open AirPods next to an iPhone it launches an animation to help you pair them versus other headphones that you have to connect via Settings > Bluetooth

I bought the fair condition, and they were like new. The problem is that they are still attached to the previous owner. Any ideas?

I bought a fake airpods from facebook marketplace. There is no easy way to determine.

Mine launched an animation right after I opened the lid.

Just bring your Apple iPhone and pair it right there without leaving the store if you can, it will take less than a few minute. If the AirPod is tied to someone else's account, return it, if it is fake, return it. Don't take it home and then come back. That extra five minutes to me is worth the $100+ in savings.

AirPods 3 Pro I purchased from Amazon Resale last December were FindMy locked to previous owner. Resetting them didn't work; nothing did. I then contacted Apple support, which opened a case, and proved a new replacement at no cost— left and right earbuds, and charging case, shipped separately — through its express replacement program (temporary credit card hold pending receipt of defective items) within a week of my contacting them. I shipped back the FIndMy locked earbuds and case with packaging and label provided by Apple; Fedex came to my door to pick up. Apple provided confirmation that it received the defective set within a few days. Apple warranty transferred seamlessly to the replacement serial number. I think it's worth a shot, especially if you can get the situation resolved within the return period, as I was able to. Cheers

"here, these are fake" ...how do they know you didn't swap them? That said, I would open them up, inspect and test them right then and there in front of the staff.
