Idk how to tell yall. BUT DO NOT
EVER BUY ANY USED / OPEN BOX AirPods. 80% of them are scams and I have been scammed thru the AirPods Pros 3 thru EBay and BEST BUY. Best Buy initially didn't approve my refund and I had to argue with BEST BUY to get a refund as the IMEI on the AirPods was different than the box, as people buy new AirPods and swap them with fake ones. Trust me spend the extra $50-100 and get the real official brand new pair and save yourself a favor in the future.

The last time I bought Open Box "Excellent" headphones from Best Buy, they were clearly not in Excellent condition. I would have barely rated them "Fair". I won't buy Open Box again.

You're pretty much out of luck. I have the same problem. Only the previous owner can unlock. Only thing I can think of is to have them actually break and need to use the AppleCare or Best Buy warranty. As they are now, it's not technically a product hardware issue so they wouldn't qualify from Apple at least for warranty just because of the pairing issue.

I have a pair of fake AirPods Pro 1 from tiktok. They look identical to the real thing but a real AirPod would not charge in the case or pair with a fake one. It did the pairing animation when you open them, but not all of the features were available. I think call controls and automatic ear detection were missing from Bluetooth settings, and iirc Find My only showed location of the case. It did have transparency/noise cancellation though.

The only way I could tell they were fake is that both left and right AirPods had the same serial number, but that might just be true of the ones I had and not true of all fake AirPods.

One way is if features are missing, if left and right earbud have the same serial number (not sure if all fakes are like this but mine were) and if they will play at a volume that is obviously unsafe for your ear.

I bought two excellent OB during the last post. They let me open the boxes and link them to my Apple id in order to ensure they weren't registered to someone else. Gave one to my very discerning teenager who still doesn't know it was an open box. Yeah, I'm a terrible dad.

They wouldn't let me return them for months until I had to complain to BBB and the FTC. Do NOT buy used things like this from BestBuy. Their managers like Rhandy are complete a*holes.

Left both of my earbuds in a hotel in LA somehow. Just snagged a pair of the "open box - excellent" Will be sure to update tomorrow after I pick them up at BestBuy.

Recommend pick up in person if possible, and test the unit right at the pick up counter, and return if there is any problem on the spot
