It's kind of expensive for 8cr. These are cheaper materials. There are better options for $30.

FYI, 8cr with a handle mainly made of G10 with a laminate.

For uninitiated among us, you mean this as a negative, correct? What should be we looking for in an I expensive pocket knife?

Personally I dislike when a knife has a carbon fiber laminate over the G10. It makes the handle more slippery and I think looks kind of cheesy.

Believe it or not there's a significant difference between around $20 and $30, I would say this knife is under $20 range. Once you're looking at a budget of $30 you can get a lot more including the blade steel and just overall quality.

seems the D2 quality control varies so you might get a soft one because of the heat treat, generally D2 seems to vary. There's people that have tested it pretty thoroughly especially being so popular.

But the consensus is it's a great $10 knife, right?

If you get lucky I guess. Some of the results are worse than good 8cr13mov steel when it's treated right, and D2 steel is a big part of the bargain, unless you don't care about that and just want axis / crossbar lock, in which case I think they might have one for $5. (but likely 3cr13 for the mystery steel)
