It's 3 inches smaller. j/k. It's smaller size will allow you to get into tighter spaces. I imagine it will be less aggressive than a full speed sander as well.

I need this so bad. I've been using a belt sander, but I don't always want a one-way sand. I got rid of all my M 18 because I've been focusing on small electronic projects so trying to get as many M 12 brushless tools as possible on sale. In for one thank you.

Genuinely in love with the M12 Detail Sander, cannot immediately see why I'd ever need this one… but still want it.

It would seem like the Model 2531-20 would be a better design for detail work like getting in corners and around posts.

Totally different orbital sanders, the 6" M12 is awesome, but too expensive, I got lucky for about 200 before the tarrifs kicked in, but would never pay full price.

Wound up ordering this since I had a 10% off coupon if I used my HD Pro credit card. Probably wouldn't get a lot of use for me, but can definitely get into places my 5 and 6 inch can't, we shall see

I got into the m12 line for the detail sander and installation driver, which are great.
I picked this up shortly after. Honestly it isn't very useful. The detail sander is far more handy even without dust extraction and without active dust extraction this does a poor job. I find the only time i've personally used this is cleaning up patches for nail holes for trim, and even then the detail sander would have probably done better.
There may be better use cases for this but it isn't aggressive enough for what I want and not as dust free as i'd care for either. I use it on the lathe for sanding bowls with a soft interface pad but Honestly a drill or even a normal bowl sander probably does just as well.

It's definitely no rotex 90 (and the rotex 90 has a triangular pad too so technically it could do both jobs if you want to put $500 into a sander)

Why does the 2nd pic in this post show the 6" sander?

great deal! For some reason the military discount was not automatically applying but I called customer service and they gave me an extra 15% off for the inconvenience.

Agrees, but I don't believe that one is random orbit if that's important for your use case.
