Community Reviews
Logitech's Ergo M575S is a comfortable thumb trackball that shines for long sessions, couch use, and setups where you do not want to move a mouse around. The ball feel gets praise for precise control, the battery life is described as very good, and the switches are easy to replace when they wear out. The main caveat is Logitech's familiar left click and double click failure over time, and the flat shape may need a riser for better angle. It is a solid, low maintenance trackball if you want ergonomic control without the full MX Ergo feature set.
heavy data-entry, design, or "all-day" computer users who want to reduce thumb strain, because multiple long-term users report no thumb issues even with heavy workloads like data entry, Photoshop/logo work, drawing, and long gaming sessions.
people who are already comfortable with trackballs and want a model with a maintainable click switch, because commenters say the left click/double-click problem can be fixed by replacing the switch and that it's relatively easy to do.
people who use a trackball for long sessions because regular mice only work for a few hours, since commenters say the trackball style is easier for extended use and they also get good battery life and less cleaning.
IT workers who want a trackball mouse they can rely on day after day, because one commenter says they've been using this style for 9-10 years without any issues.
buyers who care about the exact feel of the trackball ball, because one commenter says swapping the Ergo's trackball into another brand solved slipperiness/rough spinning issues for them.
buyers who want a trackball specifically to avoid wrist issues after trying other mouse styles, because one commenter switched from a vertical mouse due to carpal tunnel concerns and says the Ergo trackball avoided thumb stress and related issues.
buyers who are sensitive to left-click reliability after a couple years, because commenters report the "double-click"/left-switch failure issue showing up after 1.5-2 years on Logitech units.
new trackball users who are expecting it to feel like a regular mouse right away, because one commenter says the ball felt overly "spinny" and inaccurate until they acclimate.
people who need on-the-fly DPI adjustment and a vertical stand, because one commenter returned the M575S after seconds for lacking features like on-the-fly DPI and a vertical stand compared with the MX Ergo.
people who want a quiet version specifically, because a Target listing commenter says the one they saw was not the M575S (the quiet model).
people who get thumb discomfort in long sessions with this trackball style, because one commenter says they experienced thumb discomfort with the M570 (even after switching) and eventually moved to a fingerball instead.
buyers who are shopping strictly for a "deal" versus historical pricing, because one commenter says $40 is pretty common and not much of a discount compared to past ~$19.99 sales.

I wonder if people who don't have problems don't use it excessively in, say, a heavy CAD environment where RSI originally develops--or are just under 30 where it literally doesn't matter because you can use anything.
If you want a trackball I think a fingerball is infinitely better. Like the Kensington Expert (though I wouldn't use it in the intended orientation with that terrible wrist rest).
Never once had a RSI injury with my thumb. But first 4 months in college, developed wrist issues from mice and that's when/why I switched over.
EDIT: Logitech M570 was the model that I was referring to. Have 6 of those in my Amazon order history and I'm pretty sure I bought some of them from other retailers as well. I'd guess I went through 10 or so of them (I'm pretty sure a few still work, but most do not because of the clicker issue).
$40 at staples, $40 at logitech.com, $40 at Best Buy, $40 at Microcenter, $40 at walmart.com. Not really much of a deal. Just normal-ish sale.
I actually bought one at Dell.com for the full $50, just to use up Dell rewards... in case anyone is in a similar situation. Harder and harder to find any decent prices to buy smaller items on Dell. (Currently $45 at dell in black or off-white with ... (giggle)... blue balls.)
But this particuar mouse here isnt made as good as the older wired ones, the left click start to double click after a couple years and you gotta replace it. About 3 years ago i sspent the extra money on the 90.00 rechargeable version and havnt had any problems as of yet.

The one with the red ball was the TrackMan Marble (or some variant of it). Most people don't realize that was at least the third major revision of the TrackMan line. The original had a grey ball and was an ergonomic nightmare. It was basically a rectangle with a ball on one side. The second version had a blue ball and looked like a snail.
