Some newer laptops don't have a built in Ethernet port. So, if you want a hardwired Internet connection you need an adapter of some type, usually USB A or C.

Ah, that's kinda crazy. Saw a few of those adapters at some stores, but that makes sense. I'm pretty curious on the individual's use for it so I figured I'd ask. Waiting to finish my desk setup before I decide if I need a hub like this. thanks for the info tho

Yeah like altrefrain mentioned, I have a macbook pro which doesnt have the ethernet port builtin. I use it to boost my internet speed to 1Gps + stability. If you dont care about these 2 then this hub is fine.
