This brake piston press kit is mainly useful for rear calipers and other pistons that must be rotated back instead of simply pushed in. It can make awkward brake jobs easier than fighting with a C clamp, especially when the caliper and tool line up well. The main limitation is that many vehicles with electronic parking brakes need a different service mode or tool, and some Ford setups may not fit these inserts. For basic front pads, a clamp or rental tool may be enough, so this is a handy low cost specialty kit.

  • The kit can help compress caliper pistons that must be rotated or clocked back during retraction.

  • The tool can be useful for rear brake jobs where a C-clamp alone may not reset the parking-brake mechanism correctly.

  • The kit can serve as an extra option when electronic parking-brake service mode is not available on a vehicle.

  • The kit may be worth trying under about $15 for piston styles that require turning as they retract.

  • The kit may not be suitable for all caliper types because some pistons require rotation while others can be handled differently, making fitment uncertain.

  • The kit may not work well for electronic parking brakes because it likely lacks the right inserts for many Ford e-brakes and trucks.

  • The kit can be a waste of money when it does not solve C-clamp fighting for certain caliper setups.

  • The kit may not be necessary because some brake jobs can be completed using service mode via an OBD2 reader plus rotation and clamp force.

Autozone will rent this out to you for free. Though this will save you the trip. Personally I just use a block of wood and a clamp.
O'Reilly too. If you're not buying pads from them it's actually 2 trips...

I can't recommend this as a master tech, there are much better methods. I have what looks to be the same kit in a different brand that just collects dust.
Some of the newer calipers have ebrakes systems have a motor and require you to rotate it in and not push it in. Though mine has a some long combination of button presses inside the car to disable the motor but I heard there are some who don't have it.

Never knew this existed. I just use a giant C clamp
A C-clamp wont work on many calipers, particularly rear where parking brake is intrigal to the Caliper. the hydraulic piston also contains a screw type mechanism to apply parking brake and the piston must be rotated or "clocked" back while simultaneously applying pressure to reset the piston into the caliper bore

I use to do that. But some brake are weird to put a c-clamp on it. Until I got set as a gift. These are so much nicer when they are lined up and easy to use.

You don't have to, there's other options, like enabling brake service/maintenance mode, and definitely don't let the caliper dangle as he did in that video
That's for electronic parking brakes. The type of parking brakes that need this tool are not electronic. There's no motor to put in service mode with them.
