Free malware with purchase
I think you're a year late out of the cave. This has been addressed and clarified a hundred times now over the past few years.
Acemagic: "Our software developers, in an effort to enhance user experience by reducing initial boot time, made adjustments to the Microsoft source code, including network settings, without obtaining software digital signatures, and the RGB lighting control software was also without one. This oversight led to isolated reports of virus-infected mini PCs manufactured before November 18, 2023."
They were lax in their digital signature network security a couple of years ago when trying to make their slow devices faster. That resulted in viruses able to get onto systems. There was no hardware or software "malware" installed, the digital security software has long since been strengthened, and there have been no repeats of the problem. Fake outrage over things like this when trying to get a computer on the cheap is silly.
How about sticking to facts in the present tense, with the present device, such as information on whether it lives up to its stated specs and prices. That would be more helpful than this redundant repetitive comment. Thanks.

Looks like no USB4/TB 4 support for eGPUs but otherwise great compute specs for the current pricing. Note: Older DDR4 RAM, however.

  • No Oculink either. (No eGPU options.)
  • Intel UHD Graphics (weak, and not for PC gaming like Iris Xe or newer stuff, might be good for higher end emulators...)
Pretty overkill specs for what it is limited to. It should easily chew through CPU workloads and can display to three screens. 🤷 ♂️

It should make for a capable little server with those specs. Secondary market for DDR4 2x16GB 3200 is $130-$160, with the open box / new 1TB NVMEs falling into the $100 range. That leaves the rest of the PC for $236, which is very reasonable for midrange workloads.

As always, I'd advise wiping and installing a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro before using. I do this for all PCs to avoid OEM bloatware, not just potentially insecure software or drivers.

It doesn't matter because for an average user there isn't a simple and straightforward way to verify each and everything. Best bet is to install your own OS or run it in an isolated environment.

I run a 5050 from a ribbon riser off one of my unused m.2s on my dell 7080micro for all my LLM workloads everything happens in the VRAM so its not really a big deal with no eGPU support if that is your intent. You can 100% get better deals with used dell/hp mini/micros, with that being said if you are getting this little guy for a starter homelab it is overkill and a half.
