Why would anyone give the government access to your family's DNA?

What makes you think they need it? The all access membership seems like a good deal if anyone can comment.
You're only getting three months at this price. Their goal is to sucker people in and hope they forget to cancel the full-price subscription. For example: "Your All Access subscription will automatically renew at $149 every 3 months until you cancel by visiting your Account Settings or by contacting us."

It's not the US government. You are giving your DNA to Mossad. Israeli company bought it.

If you are going to do a DNA test to determine ancestry, is there a better/more secure one than Ancestry? My partner has been wanting to know their origins for forever and this seems like the right price, but I do worry about the repercussions of it all.

If you are worried about someone knowing your DNA information, Ancestry is the same as any provider. If the government wants to do something stupid and judge people on what DNA they have in particular, then it is the government you should be worried about and you should join in protesting whatever government it is who is moving towards fascism. Otherwise, go ahead and live your life normally and get a test. Ancestry; being the largest of databases, statistically has more accuracy. I tried 23 & Me, and Ancestry seems to be more accurate. Good luck with your search.

These DNA companies often sell your data to insurance companies, so in turn you could be denied coverage or pay way more because of certain criteria they use against you. I read somewhere that one of these DNA companies was "hacked" and millions of people's data was compromised.
