It's worth it. I've put many hours on mine and it's a total hand saver

I see this and I guess it IS possible for me to mess up a caulking job even more than a manual caulking gun...

Can someone explain this. caulking is already such an easy thing with the $5 one I bought 15 years ago. Why do I need a battery powered caulk gun?

Well, I guess there are two things to look at. Are you a professional or an occasional user? As a former professional painter and now a part time side hustler it makes a huge difference. If I'm painting long commercial hallways (think 60ft or longer) or a big residential property with wooden baseboards, windows, and doors I will go through cases of caulk on a job potentially. Additionally, as you age your hands don't work as well. I had to do a lot of caulking on a log home (no not chinking, caulking checks) and my hands hurt at the end of the day. That is a butt load of squeezing in one day, pun intended.

Not saying this is the besterst tool ever, but there isn't much to a caulk gun. I got their grease gun and it works great on my tractor, came with a battery deal.

Did they change the back off feature of this version compared to the previous? The previous one would back off so far, starting back up would take 5ish seconds, really annoying users who are holding an outstretched arm or using it overhead.

I have the older model of this caulk gun. I think it is better for applying large amounts of adhesive. There is a delay between when you pull the trigger and when caulk starts coming out. And the slowest speed setting is still relatively fast. And it's a bit bulkier than a manual caulk gun, so tough to fit in tight spaces. I wouldn't recommend this tool for a homeowner who is applying caulk to baseboards or trim. A manual caulk gun works better in that situation, IMO. For other use cases, it does come in handy.

Worth the money if you have an older RV that needs roof maintenance.

Less hand strain if you are doing something like the trim of an entire room, plus you can do longer continuous beads once you get the hang of it if you want. I also find it makes less mess.
And then if you work with stuff that has more viscocity than your run of the mill latex caulk, you really appreciate it.
