This set doesn't appear to have white (RGB+W), so I will pass for that reason. I have a 600 string RGB+W that I put on my tree and it looks wonderful. Really want another set to double up the lights for better quality pattern. The White light is necessary for a Christmas tree IMO.

I think the music thing is a gimmick.

I can't tell the layout of this. Is it one long line of lights or the curtain?

Yeah this is such a weird listing, can't understand what they're selling.

Looking directly at similar amazon listing, it's a string light but the app allows you to map the position of the lights to be able to control them individually. You can put them in like a board to make shapes and stuff. Music is only done through your phone or you need to buy an additional dongle.

If you look at Target's site, you can see it's strings and not the curtain.

It appears to be this exact bundle [twinkly.com] from Twinkly's site.

I have this (Gen 2) though not the music thing. It's two very long strings of lights permanently connected to a hub with about 4' (each strand) of wire without lights.
We put the hub on the ground under our 7.5' tree and run both strings up the center 1/3 of the tree. Then use 1 strand on top 2/3 and 1 on the bottom 1/3. It's great light density. Once you use the scanning feature via the app to locate all the lights everything syncs up.
Also consider the RGBW version.
We've had this for 5ish years now. Paid $400 for it so we use it from Halloween until January. All lights still work.
You could also probably string these around a room or on something else but I have never tried. I think the effects begin from the hub outward and are duplicated on each string so keep that in mind if you don't plan to scan them.

I like what they list under the "Dimensions" dropdown, which is precisely where you'd expect to see clarity on what exactly is being sold.

I would go this route too. They are now about $200 (RGBW) but I paid $400 (RGB) for this several years ago so $200 now seems just fine.

Just FYI RGB and RGBW versions are not cross compatible. All your strings need to be one version or the other.

A note from a user who has had these for several years. I have two 600 sets with music dongle. The music component is not needed but the theory is you can sync your lights with music. I guess lol. I want to highlight that I hate these lights. I just hate them. I cannot get these lights to sync. When you're in the app and have successfully linked the light sets together, the theory is that you map the lights out and then apply designs or patterns. I used to be successful at getting them to link, but never sync. Not once ever. Once you link them, you can preview patterns and in that instance, when it's in preview mode, the sync is flawless. The problem lies in the fact that each strand is separate and after picking your pattern, it has to be applied to both light strands. What results is that one strand of lights updates with the pattern before the other, and thusly starts the pattern before the other, resulting in no sync. I have resorted to not linking the strings together and instead setting a pattern on one and then timing when I apply the pattern on the other so that they appear in sync. That lasts for awhile but as time goes on, they slowly get out of sync.

Other issues over the year - used to be able to connect them to my wifi. No longer, just not possible. You can log into the light's wifi but each light has it's own wifi so you can't connect to both at the same time, and its complicated to just get the light to broadcast the wifi signal. Oh and if you disconnect, you might as well start over.

I would never recommend these lights as you can tell. I recognize that this is my experience, not necessarily the same for others, but I like to share so that people can consider what tolerance for BS they're willing to put up with Smilie

Just to add onto another user's comment that wouldn't recommend Twinkly, I sadly have to say the same.

We got our twinkly lights ~3 years ago for outside use and used them for 2 years (only from Halloween to New Years). We had no problems at all. Suddenly this year I set them up and plug them in and they don't work. I go back and forth with support and figure out that the controller itself is dead (After getting a new Power adaptor and testing multiple outlets). This is the cheap plastic knob with a button that splits into the 2 subsets of lights.

What does Twinkly offer me after their product failed after only 2 years of holiday use? A 10% off coupon for a new set from their store.

We really liked the lights and still have a Twinkly tree going strong, but I can not recommend a company that cheaps out on the controller aspect for $200+ lights and won't replace it when it breaks. I can understand if we were running these year round and storing them in non-ideal positions, but we ran them just like they recommended and they broke after 2 years.

We have these. Ours are about 3 years old. I never use the sound thing. I like them but I am already ready to go to C7 leds for that old fashioned look.
