Note for people thinking about using this with a local LLMs - this is the M5 10-Core version, so the max memory bandwidth is 153.6 GB/s. The M5 Pro 15-Core is 307 GB/s. The Macbooks Pros do not automatically come with the M# Pro series SOC by default anymore (since the M3 generation).

For reference (GB/s):
M1: 68.25
M1 Pro: 200
M1 Max: 400
M1 Ultra: 800
----
M2: 102.4
M2 Pro: 204.8
M2 Max: 409.6
M2 Ultra: 819.2
----
M3: 102.4
M3 Pro: 153.6
M3 Max 30-Core: 307.2
M3 Max 40-Core: 409.6
M3 Ultra: 819.3
----
M4: 120
M4 Pro: 273
M4 Max 32-core: 410
M4 Max 40-core: 546

Yes, that's how I got mine. See second screenshot. I called Best Buy and did everything over the phone. They price match. They send you a link, you pay using link and pickup or have em ship it. Also their credit deal gives 10% back on first purchase. Which I did too.

I have an M1 Max with 64GB of RAM and I am not sure when will I need to upgrade. It really feels like a waste of $ to do so.

Tempting… but probably not worth upgrading from a MacBook Air M3 with 16gb ram and 512gb SSD? Can't seem to sell current laptop for like $700-$800 to cover the upgrade.
Nah, wait for the next gen. This is a great deal if you need one, but if it's just a want kinda thing, the new OLED MacBooks Pros due in late 2026 are rumored to be thinner as well as a major screen upgrade.
Although probably quite a bit more expensive…

It is tempting. I have the same Macbook Air and I'm considering it mainly for the much better display and battery life. The only thing that bugs me is about it is that is doesn't have the new Apple N1 chip with wifi 7 and bluetooth 6. I'm thinking at this point I'll hold off for the Macbook "Ultra" later this year, even if it's a lot more expensive. Should be a much bigger upgrade all across the board.

FYI if you want WiFi 7 devices, that is apparently only available on the Macbook AIR in this lineup.

Not the Pros. I like some extra ports but they should have future-proofed for WiFi in the MBP.

That's a device that should be usable for minimum 5 years. Kept in good shape, ideally 7 years.

Seven years from now Wifi7 will be ubiquitous

The just released MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and Max also have the new N1 wireless chip. This base model is the exception.

Thanks, so it's better to get the M4 pro than the M5 chip.

it depends on what you want to get out of the chip and your workflow and needs.

Might want to include M5 in the title and description, but this is a decent deal. Considering the only change to the M5 was increasing base storage to 1TB and it costs an extra $200 to increase RAM from 16 to 24GB (total $1899)
