You don't cook, do you? With a motorized grinder you can flip meat, handle seasoned vegetables, etc with your dirty hand and grind fresh pepper, salt, etc with your clean one. Or hold the lid of the pan with one hand, while seasoning with the other, not needlessly using two hands for every single task isn't "lazy."

And honestly if you don't cook (thus couldn't connect those dots) that might be "a prime example of how lazy our society has become."

There are many things that are definitely examples of laziness, but this isn't one of them. First off, many, many people have moderate to severe arthritis that makes grinding pepper extremely painful. Secondly, some people just use a lot of pepper. If you ever have to hand-grind a half a cup of black pepper you'll wish like hell you had an electric pepper grinder.

The anti-caking agent they put in salt and preservation they put in ground pepper change the taste for some more sensitive people, they can taste bitter if they have more taste buds and used to nature sources spices.

FWIW, in my experience fine "natural salt" isn't always consistent in size and tends to clump up very quickly (at least in the humid south) so doesn't do very well in shakers. Nor does the little bit of rice in the shaker trick tend to work either. Normal rock salt has zero of these issues so is not worse, in any way. Superior in every way even.

Bonus points for being its natural crystalline form so is shelf stable at pretty much every RH level.

Like hack; you can adjust the "consistent size" of the salt grinder. Unless you are doing something wrong, you shouldn't be getting crush and run out of any spice grinder

Seriously, why are you here if you are just going to complain about the concept of salt grinders? LOL...
Because I am also here to praise the idea of an electric pepper grinder.

I'm hoping that they're identical, because I'm about to buy them in the hope that I can use them both for pepper.

So you understand the benefits of grinding pepper but the idea of grinding salt blows your mind?

"A person has to go to the store and actively choose the larger (pepper) variety."...."Plus these (pepper) grinders do a terrible job at grinding to a consistent size, so the end result is worse anyway."

Why don't you just follow your own advice for pepper as you were dispensing for salt? Same (flawed) logic Wink

For them being identical, I have two sets (from different brands). In both cases they were the exact same device, just x2 in the box. So for your dual pepper situation...should work no problem. The rest of us poors will keep grinding our salt...and pepper Wink

Okay, now you're either just being ridiculous or you're completely new to the concept of pepper. A quantity of salt will continue being salt and tasting exactly the same long after the last human has perished from the earth, barring some sort of contamination. Pepper upon being ground immediately begins losing volatile aromatic compounds at a far faster rate than it does before it's ground. Even a person without a particularly strong sense of taste can immediately taste the difference between freshly ground pepper and a new, freshly opened container of pre-ground pepper. Also, for people who use less pepper than others, peppercorns kept whole until use will retain their superior flavor for many times longer than the pre-ground stuff

As for the grind size, the type of burrs in this kind of grinder do a far better job at grinding pepper consistently than they do salt crystals, as salt just kind of shatters like glass when it's put through a grinder. I have never encountered a salt grinder that could consistently produce a very fine salt powder, such as one might want for popcorn.

Beyond all that, the fundamental reason for me saying I find them hilarious in the first place is because I've found that the vast majority of people who have them don't even know why they have them. When asked they always seem to respond with some variation of "I don't know, I guess it's supposed to taste better?"

Stopped reading there. Never thought I'd see someone so confounded by the concept of ground salt while at the same time feeling compelled to white knight pepper (which no one is attacking). The most niche troll ever or some oddly specific triggers...LOL. Either way, good luck with that.

A lot of people have no clue, either they don't even eat at home, they just keep buying takeout and don't own a grinder, or they forget there are disabled people who might like to enjoy freshly ground pepper, another example is how you may want to hold the food open with one hand and pepper or salt with the other (sure you can have shakers but freshly ground pepper just tastes much better for some reason, and I have no clue what kind of garbage they added to the powdered pepper you get from store)

Having said that, I have been looking for a quality one of these, hard to come by. I guess they all know these motorized ones are not meant to last, so nobody wants to put their name on it.

I would like to get these if I can add extended warranty for few bucks, but I don't see the option.

LOL and Amen! BTW and FWIW, I've had the below one for almost a year, paid $10 after coupon code. Seems to go on sale regularly for $12 these days...inflation or tariffs must have driven it up.

Buying battery operated e-waste that will last a year instead of using your hands for 3 seconds to grind pepper.

Please only buy for someone who has arthritis or limited mobility or something.
My rechargeable salt and pepper grinders have been going strong for over a year. My battery ones died quickly and were a pain but I highly recommend usb chargeable ones
