Bamboo is softer than Maple, so anyone that says "Bamboo will destroy your knives!!!!!!1" probably should consult a wood hardness chart

It's more than just about the hardness. Bamboo has high silica content which is may driver for dulling g the knife. Maple is also solid wood, whereas bamboo is "glued" together.Maple is still best option. But honestly, people make too much of a deal about this.My $10.99 Mercer SD knife is still perfectly fine after many cuts on a bamboo cutting board. And when it isn't and won't take a sharpen anymore. I'll buy another under $20 knife.Bamboo is better than plastic, so if you are being price conscious, get the bamboo cutting board it will be perfectly fine for you needs.

But other issue with my bamboo cutting boards is they don't last as long. They almost always end up splitting.
