This Acer PM161Q portable monitor stands out as a lightweight second screen for travel, desk expansion, and phone based setups. It pairs well with a Pixel 9 or Raspberry Pi, can be powered from a phone at reduced brightness, and gets full power plus device charging from wall power. The integrated kickstand and VESA mount make it flexible for permanent use, and the screen is described as bright enough with little IPS bleed. The main knocks are its 1080p LCD panel, modest brightness, and fragile feel, so it fits small portable tasks better than demanding display use.

  • The monitor can run from a phone, which enables reduced-brightness viewing without a wall outlet.

  • The integrated kickstand and VESA mount support easier secondary-monitor positioning for desk or arm setups.

  • The monitor supports travel-friendly setups where a Pixel 9 can power the screen and charge through the same cable arrangement.

  • The display can show nearly zero IPS bleed on a black screen in a secondary streaming setup.

  • The display brightness and quality have been criticized as dim, including claims of a terrible 250 nit panel.

  • The monitor has been described as fragile, and durability concerns are raised for a 15.6-inch portable LCD.

  • Frequent returns have been reported, which can indicate expectation mismatch for gaming refresh-rate needs or missing speaker support.

  • The built-in stand may not support portrait orientation, which can limit vertical workflows without an additional adjustable stand.

Being lcd AND only 1080p is kind of crappy in 2026. But price is solid for the small use cases.

How are the colors on this monitor? I returned an MSI one from Costco since the brightness and colors were really washed out.

I have one of these and its a fantastic buy at $45. Having an integrated kickstand is much better than the ones with a magnetic folio for using it as a permanent secondary monitor, plus it has VESA mount for attaching to a monitor arm. Zero complaints as a secondary spotify/discord/youtube screen under my main display with nearly zero IPS bleed on a black screen and surprising brightness. Easy recommend from me.

I recently bought this one for the 300 nit brightness and folio case/stand, very happy with it:

Don't really find the extra monitor like this too useful with a laptop.
Could be very useful if you go to conferences/business trips a lot though.

If you have to lug a screen and a keyboard, why not just use a laptop?
Lighter, and I'm less worried about keeping a $40 monitor in my hotel room than my $1,500 Dell XPS laptop when I'm out. I got this for vacation use.

Contrary to popular belief, hotel safes in the room are a joke.

My Pixel 9 runs like a laptop and will even power the screen, and my smartphone is usually with me all the time.

Otherwise, I run my charger into the screen and then another cable into my Pixel, which also charges my Pixel at the same time. Nice little setup that lets me stay connected while on vaca.

Some people need two screens to do their job. I bought one to work from my mom's house sometimes.
First words I caught in your comment were "mom's house" and I thought your comment was going to take a very different turn Wink

I was looking at these when I was doing my taxes because its easier using one monitor to view your documents and a second to respond to tax questions.
I ended up using a second laptop and linking them with "project to this PC". The second laptop would sometimes disconnect and there was a slight lag. Are these problems typical? If so, I might spring for one of these.

Can you confirm it has VESA mount? I was looking for it on the product page, and it doesn't mention anything. Having VESA is the deal breaker/maker for me on this. All I can see from the pictures is it looks like it has 2 possibly threaded holes on the backside. I'm not familiar with VESA and this would be my first time using it. Any help or advice from someone familiar with it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I really want one of these for portable setups on the road. I'm so much more productive with 2 screens. I feel like 1080p is not enough res for some things. 4k probably too high. Looks like ASUS sells some oleds that look nice. I wonder how they hold up.
