The Switch OLED bundle stands out as a solid way to play Mario Kart and other Mario games, especially in handheld use or for a kid. The OLED screen is the main draw, and the system is still described as great for simply playing games, with docked Mario play also working fine on the original Switch. The main drawback is value, since the refurbished price is close to used and even brand new bundle pricing, while the Switch 1 hardware is seen as aging and slower than Switch 2. It feels most appealing if the screen matters more than chasing newer performance.

  • The Switch OLED bundle can work well for playing Mario with a kid, especially when you plan to play docked.

  • Switch 2 can reduce Mario Kart 8 Deluxe boot wait time and speed up loading for some Switch 1 games.

  • Switch 2 can deliver improved graphics and processing, including 60 fps and 1080p output in supported games.

  • Switch OLED can be a good portable choice when you want a better screen for on-the-go play.

  • The refurbished Switch OLED price can feel inflated when refurbs are available around $250 on eBay.

  • Switch OLED may feel outdated for some players because it can run games at 30 fps and lower resolutions compared with Switch 2.

  • Switch 2 battery life can be a downside for portable play, and it may require a power bank and charging habits.

  • Disney Dreamlight Valley can lag and crash on Switch OLED, with performance feeling closer to 15-20 fps than 30.

Hard disagree about the switch 2, there's a ton of visual fidelity improvement. Most of all we are seeing games at 60 fps and 1080p, none of this 960p or 720p at 30 like we had on the switch. Even playing the remasters like Zelda TotK is night and day visually better and not the frames dropping to the teens when an explosion happens, and the new Age of Imprisonment looks really good
Agree, more powerful device, better and fluent graphics, changes how a game feels.

I'm on the fence about switch 1 OLED or switch 2 for kid right now. These are $220 used at local game stores. I know switch 2 makes more sense but price is a big deterrent , also worried about not actually playing it , $80 games, breaking it, etc. But then switch OLED is so old , and slow, and antiquated. 30 fps oh my 🤢 we have multiple gaming PCs and tablets but I just want to play Mario with my kid. why don't they make a console with no screen
If you don't care about the screen why in the world are you looking at the OLED. I'd suggest either go ultra cheap with whatever busted up OG Switch you can find on FB marketplace. Say about $150. I bet you could find a deal. If you don't want to play portably you don't need a good condition screen or even controllers. You can buy wired controllers for really cheap that will work better than the joycon. Or you bite the bullet and get the Switch 2. People think they're being smart and saving money by buying a Switch now but you're really not. The Switch 1 is already at the end of its life. You'd be saving $200 but missing out on the next 8-9 years of Gaming. To me it's not worth it but every person has to make their own decision.

I've had all three switches. The OLED switch will be great for just playing Mario with your kid. Switch 2 offers some fantastic quality of life upgrades and graphics/processing upgrades, but since you have multiple gaming PCs and tablets, it's not crucial. TBH if you're just playing Mario games docked, even the original non-OLED switch will be just fine.

Whether this is a good price or not I can't say as I haven't been following OLED switch prices since the 2 came out.

Though I should probably start paying attention and sell my OLED switch.

Agreed. The Switch 2 is a pretty big leap performance-wise. It feels like a better option to save a bit more for the Switch 2 rather than spend $270 for the aged Switch OLED. Or for lighter games or a beater for the kids, perhaps try to find an OG Switch for under $200.

I play Disney Dreamlight Valley which lags and crashes often on Switch OLED/Switch/Switch Lite. The game devs already reduced textures so the graphics look a lot blurrier but it still runs like crap. It honestly doesn't feel like 30 fps. More like 15-20. I've also played the game on PS4 and even that works so much better than the Switch 1.

The graphics are the same on Switch 2 but the performance is much improved. It's getting a free Switch 2 update later this month and I'm looking forward to not having the blurry mess we have how.

I have both a Switch OLED and a Switch 2. Switch 2 is totally worth the upgrade in my opinion, even if you intend to play Switch 1 games. There are a number of Switch 1 games that load a lot faster on Switch 2. Even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a shorter wait time when you boot it up on Switch too. There are other positives too...

As for a negative, battery life is probably the biggest one for Switch 2 if you play on the go. If you have a portable power bank though, recharging is easy. Its worth noting that I charge up to 80-90% for preserving the battery for the long run. Yes, there are others negatives aside from this one though.

So there it is, a pro and a con. Most posts are one sided with the scope and don't say both positives and negatives.

I love my OLED and it will be a keeper. I'm very particular on what games I'll buy for it but my collection is over 50+ physical games. The quality of the games are amazing so I'm not concerned about that either. When and if I ever do get a Switch 2 depends on if it'll have more physical games as I don't like not really owning my digitally bought game. That's not what I buy, play and collect games for.

Purchased switch 2 on day 1. I have 2 switch 2 titles and a few downloaded games from the store. Probably about 10 hours of use since new. Switch 1 oled is great if you want to just play games.
Switch OLED is the better portable. Switch 2 the better home console

Have a switch 1 with 10 or 11 games, it works great. Thought about switch 2 upgrade. Went with Steam Deck instead. 10X better option.

I'll probably buy a Switch2 in a few years if they come down in price and there's lots of used HQ games available for cheap. If not, I can live without.

Switch 2 just released an update today that allows switch 1 games to perform as if they are docked when running on the switch 2 in handheld mode. No more crappy 720p anymore
