These are $220 used at local game stores.
I know switch 2 makes more sense but price is a big deterrent , also worried about not actually playing it , $80 games, breaking it, etc.
But then switch OLED is so old , and slow, and antiquated. 30 fps oh my 🤢
we have multiple gaming PCs and tablets but I just want to play Mario with my kid. why don't they make a console with no screen

If it were a PS4 or something, then I can see the benefit of getting an older system because the older games go for $5-$20 and there is a ton of amazing games. You could easily fill a year of fun games for $100.
The same is not true with Nintendo; that AAA first party game that came out 9 years ago is still the same MSRP as it is today. It is much better long term to save your money and get a switch 2. At least then you would be capable of playing games that are coming out as opposed to being restricted to last gen.
And then you've got all the nice to have features like better controllers, bigger screen, etc.
