So typically I just size up to an 11. Except, most manufacturer's "wide" and "extra wide" are just that...arbitrary names. And when you say "I need an 11 4E, what are my options?" they just laugh at you.
They berate you saying, "oh you can't POSSIBLY have a 4E width!"....until they break out the Brannock and exclaim. "HOLY CARP, you really are a 4E!" Yeah, thanks buddy, totally don't feel like a freak now!
Also, the WRONG thing to say (got me kicked out of a store as a kid) if they joke around "Hey, you know in China they wrap people's feet to make them smaller! Have you tried that?"....if you say something like "GREAT IDEA! Maybe I should try shoving my foot up your backside, maybe that might work!", they tend to frown upon that.
(no, I did not say "backside" either).
(mom got beet red. dad laughed his "backside" off.)
