$170 difference between this and the m5.
I wonder if we'll see deeper discounts as they try to clear inventory

The 15 inch MacBook Air M4 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is being framed as a strong everyday Mac for most buyers, with enough memory for normal multitasking and even AI features that run mostly on remote servers. The Air's slim build, responsive performance, and excellent trackpad and display keep drawing praise, and the 512GB storage avoids the tight space concerns tied to 256GB models. The main hesitation is price, since Apple refurb, education pricing, and future M5 driven discounts could land lower. It looks like a solid value if you want the larger Air without stepping up to a Pro.

  • The 16GB RAM configuration can handle everyday Mac workloads without noticeable lagginess on the latest macOS.

    KawiNinjaZXBlue_Oak

  • The deal includes free shipping at the listed $1079 price point.

    wikipost

  • AI features may rely heavily on remote servers, which can reduce the need for higher local RAM for many users.

    shortList

  • The MacBook Air can feel more responsive than an older M1 Air while still running the latest macOS smoothly.

    Blue_Oak

  • The 16GB RAM may feel risky for a 5+ year ownership window as software updates and Apple AI features could increase memory demands.

    Elwotskayano1418

  • The 512GB storage option can still feel tight for users who download plenty of games, even when RAM is sufficient.

    ShushiiT

  • The current price may be less attractive because it is close to last summer's pricing, with expectations for lower pricing after M5 availability.

    jakeliu

  • The deal price may be higher than Apple's refurb store pricing, which can limit value versus refurbished alternatives.

Really good deal. 16gb is plenty for Mac for most
Genuinely curious, do you think 16GB will still be enough after a few years of software updates, especially as Apple continues to bake in AI? I'm looking to buy a MacBook that will last 5+ years without slowing down to a snails pace due to insufficient RAM.

I have the same concern. Waiting for a deal with more RAM.

MacOS handles memory much better than Windows. If you are needing more memory than this on an Air I would suggest you step up to the MacBook Pro.

If this is the case, it sounds like the m4/m5 MBA would likely die before it would need 24GB to run efficiently. 16GB seems to be the obvious choice.

It would seem there might be more aggressive discounts coming on this M4 model due to the M5 still being freshly shipped, although perhaps the 13" model is higher volume, so likely more of those, particularly in the Walmart warehouse, which incredibly coughs up some older, new inventory a year or more after discontinuation.

These MacBook Airs are very nicely built, slim laptops and probably perfectly fine specs for 85+% of users. Still using an M1 MacBook Air 8GB RAM/512GB and alternating with a similar age mid-range business grade Dell Latitude 7000 series running Windows 11 with i5/16GB RAM/512GB. The touch pad and display experiences are night and day better on the MacBook Air. Both machines feel similarly perfectly responsive.

While I might notice snappier performance on a newer model, this one still feels perfectly fine, no lagginess, running the latest MacOS.

Point is - if you think you want a MacBook Pro or a newer version than your current MacBook Air, first research whether you'll truly benefit from the extra spend.

A fair number of users who are only doing email, social media and streaming, would likely be perfectly happy with the newly released $599 Apple MacBook NEO. It runs on an A18 mobile chip like the iPhone but operates on MacOS, not iPadOS or iOS. Apple continues to blur the lines between laptops and iPads, iPhones.
