$170 difference between this and the m5.
I wonder if we'll see deeper discounts as they try to clear inventory

The 15 inch MacBook Air M4 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is being framed as a strong everyday Mac for most buyers, with enough memory for normal multitasking and even AI features that run mostly on remote servers. The Air's slim build, responsive performance, and excellent trackpad and display keep drawing praise, and the 512GB storage avoids the tight space concerns tied to 256GB models. The main hesitation is price, since Apple refurb, education pricing, and future M5 driven discounts could land lower. It looks like a solid value if you want the larger Air without stepping up to a Pro.

  • The 16GB RAM configuration can handle everyday Mac workloads without noticeable lagginess on the latest macOS.

    KawiNinjaZXBlue_Oak

  • The deal includes free shipping at the listed $1079 price point.

    wikipost

  • AI features may rely heavily on remote servers, which can reduce the need for higher local RAM for many users.

    shortList

  • The MacBook Air can feel more responsive than an older M1 Air while still running the latest macOS smoothly.

    Blue_Oak

  • The 16GB RAM may feel risky for a 5+ year ownership window as software updates and Apple AI features could increase memory demands.

    Elwotskayano1418

  • The 512GB storage option can still feel tight for users who download plenty of games, even when RAM is sufficient.

    ShushiiT

  • The current price may be less attractive because it is close to last summer's pricing, with expectations for lower pricing after M5 availability.

    jakeliu

  • The deal price may be higher than Apple's refurb store pricing, which can limit value versus refurbished alternatives.

I suspect we will— the M4 MBA discounts so far are not reflecting that the base MBA M5 got bumped up to 16/512

If you consider both the Black Friday sales on these, and the fact that there is a slight cost-of-living issue currently that Apple has responded to aggressively: My opinion is that these may go $100~ cheaper before inventory runs low. We're already seeing light discounting on the M5s and they've only been out a few months.

So is this a solid price you can buy today? Yes. If you're absolutely looking for max value, do I think we'll see it a little cheap? Also, yes. But no assurances.

Genuinely curious, do you think 16GB will still be enough after a few years of software updates, especially as Apple continues to bake in AI? I'm looking to buy a MacBook that will last 5+ years without slowing down to a snails pace due to insufficient RAM.

16GB should be more than enough for most users. Almost all AI related features on MacOS and iOS are handled by remote servers accessed over an internet connection and not run locally. The only cases where I can see more RAM being necessary is for people who run multiple memory-intensive apps at the same time or people trying to run a custom local AI setup.

MacOS handles memory much better than Windows. If you are needing more memory than this on an Air I would suggest you step up to the MacBook Pro.
The pro offers nothing but a better screen and bulk..and the screen you can barely tell a difference aside from 120hz

What protection plan is everyone getting? Is AppleCare worth it or has anyone used the Allstate plan from Costco for $99?

Regular price is 1,199. So shouldn't 22% off be less than 1,079?

This is my favorite among current macbook lineups (I prefer Apple's IPS screen to their miniLED because the latter has very slow response times and personally it gives me headaches for some reason). But still this is 60Hz. I think if it is similar money, laptops like ThinkPad X9 15 Aura will be better --- its OLED screen is generally much better for content consumption. Even its consumer-counterpart (Yoga Slim 7i Aura) has a 120hz IPS screen.

Not sure why you were down voted. 60Hz is why I refuse to buy this. Otherwise I would have already bought it.
