Costco has the M5 Max 48GB 2TB for $4350.

Edit: Downvoters - I'm not stating that the costco price is better or worse than this deal, I'm throwing this out there for people that care more for the speedups in the time to first token and overall increased bandwidth and raw compute.

Good deal for that configuration, but it's safe to say that most people buying a $5K MacBook are not on SD.

Only if I had the money or the need for a configuration of this caliber.I'm still rocking M1 Max 64gb RAM and 8tb ssd that I got factory refurbished from Micro Center for $2K more than a year ago.I'm still waiting for that kind of deal again.

For those who throw $5000 on a laptop, what do you use it for?

48GB is hardly enough to run LLMs, though. I was thinking about the costco deal for a minute, but I want that 128GB and I definitely am not getting the M4 in this deal.

Memory bandwidth affects raw token output speed, but the Time to First Token is about prompt processing which gets 3-4x speedups from some new matrix multiplication (matmul) capabilities that the M5 cpu introduced to every graphics core. Or as Apple says, they added new 'neural accelerators' to the graphics cores.
