PSA this is a mid-ranger and not one of their premium backpacks. Wouldn't pay $50 for this. I would buy a Synergy new with tags off fleabay instead. If you need TSA ScanSmart (you don't), go with the Ibex.

Source: I collect them.

These fully-opening scansmart or whatever (other brands have them too) thing is a useless gimmick. Literally no airport lets you scan your bag like that. Either it's precheck where you don't have to take anything out, or you take out the laptop and put it in a separate tray.

This backpack will last a decade plus. It is heavy and a bit bulky. It's not flashy. It's not for hiking up Rainier. But if you want a tough, workhorse backpack with plenty of space and plenty of pockets then this will do the job.

Agree that the "ScanSmart" feature is pointless, but it doesn't hurt anything.

It depends on the TSA. That is why I said you don't need it however. Half the time they're going to eyeball it and demand you put it on a separate tray.

It causes the rear of the backpack to butterfly when you do not want it to. That's why I suggested a Synergy. More durable and doesn't do that.

I have had my Swissgear backpack for 15 years, and it still looks like new. It was a great purchase.

I lost a laptop because of it. Somehow they are able to get rid of posts highlighting this fact in many forums... Absolute nightmare.

Not used daily but I've had this for like fifteen years. If the quality is still the same it's a solid buy.
