ASUS RT-BE92U is a Wi Fi 7 tri band router that can be very fast and, after firmware updates, has become solid for some setups. Merlin support is a plus, and the 6 gigahertz band can help avoid 5 gigahertz DFS dropouts. The main caveat is stability, with reports of random reboots, crashes, and MLO problems unless features are toned down or 6 gigahertz power is adjusted. It feels like a capable but finicky router that rewards careful setup.
Common Questions (5)
It can be stable after firmware fixes and tuning, but there are also reports of random reboots, connection drops, and crashes even after updates or Merlin. One reported workaround is lowering 6GHz power from high to medium, which stopped daily reboots for that setup.
Only if you are willing to troubleshoot, because MLO is specifically called out as unreliable on this model. If you want a router that works without disabling features, the comments suggest looking elsewhere.
Yes, it supports Asus-Merlin firmware. Merlin is used by owners to stabilize the router and add extra features, though some features such as VPN Fusion/native NordVPN support may be missing in the latest Merlin builds.
Turning off MLO is reported to make the router usable for some setups, and several comments say MLO itself does not work reliably. That workaround can help, but it also means you may be disabling one of the main Wi‑Fi 7 features.
Yes. Firmware updates are repeatedly described as fixing the router's early stability problems, and updating immediately is treated as the first step after setup. That matters because the router has had issues with drops, reboots, and shaky behavior that improved after patching.

This BE92U was onsale at the same price before, however, the deal had users recommended different things, even turning off MLO for it to work. If you have to turn certain things off for it to work, it's not the manufacturer's intention.

a) Flint 2 + Openwrt; b) <$50 Netgear + DD-Wrt; c) Other Asus Router if you only go with Asus

Tried Merlin, Factory reset and eventually I got RMA and Asus sent me different router instead. After that, I just went with info and couldn't be happier.
