ASUS RT-BE92U is a Wi Fi 7 tri band router that can be very fast and, after firmware updates, has become solid for some setups. Merlin support is a plus, and the 6 gigahertz band can help avoid 5 gigahertz DFS dropouts. The main caveat is stability, with reports of random reboots, crashes, and MLO problems unless features are toned down or 6 gigahertz power is adjusted. It feels like a capable but finicky router that rewards careful setup.

I didn't listen to the posters the last time this went FP and I bought one. Huge mistake. Firmware does NOT fix the major issues this thing has, Merlin or Asus OEM. If you actually plan on using Wifi 7 in MLO stay far away from this unit. You'll waste at least a couple hours of your life.
MLO doesn't work, please turn it off.

86U is an older but much better router. It's even considered as a flagship.
This BE92U was onsale at the same price before, however, the deal had users recommended different things, even turning off MLO for it to work. If you have to turn certain things off for it to work, it's not the manufacturer's intention.
only MLO off is enough.

I've been an Asus router fan for years, but the BE92U seems like a big gamble at $190.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I have this router. It suffered daily random reboots until I turned the 6GHz power down from high to medium. Ever since, it's been smooth sailing. Maybe that will help someone else. Aside from having to figure that out myself, I've been very satisfied with it.

NO to me. For peace of mind, I would look at better cheaper alternative routes:
a) Flint 2 + Openwrt; b) <$50 Netgear + DD-Wrt; c) Other Asus Router if you only go with Asus

I've had this router for 6 months and have had nothing but issues, even after the firmware updates and even trying Merlin. Router randomly resets itself. Many documented cases out there even since the firmware updates.

Agreed. The BE86U has a more powerful quad-core processor. If you don't have a need for 6ghz, the BE86U is the better router.

This had a ton of issues, but they have been fixed with firmware, so make sure you update that first thing. It has grown into a wonderful router.
I bought a TV with Google OS that had a bad rep. I was going to use it as a screen for a media PC, and it had a great panel so I didn't care. When I unboxed the TV I decided to see how bad the Google OS was... seems they had resolved all the issues 6 months previously. But everyone online still hated on it.

Tried latest Merlin..... missing one feature that very useful..... VPN FUSION, native support nordvpn .... super useful if you use a NAS as P2P and wants to hide from IPS.

just bought at best buy with 15% off trading in old router. gonna try it out, dont need it... but hate having my wifi drop off dfs channel on 5ghz when weather radar is detected, even with a script that puts it back on dfs checking every hr. figure 6ghz is the solution and might as well go futureproof. with the recent fcc ban on future routers, guess ill bite the bullet now

Thanks. You mentioned the below previously. Which router did ASUS send and is it still working well for you?

Tried Merlin, Factory reset and eventually I got RMA and Asus sent me different router instead. After that, I just went with info and couldn't be happier.
