The Retroid Pocket 5 stands out as a strong value handheld for PS2 and GameCube emulation, with a 4:3 screen that suits older games and a setup flow that can auto install many emulators. Moonlight streaming also works well, and lighter Switch or PC titles can run too. The main caveat is that tougher PS2 games, some Wii titles, and Switch compatibility can be hit or miss, with several games needing custom settings or staying at native resolution. It feels like a solid midrange pick if you want a dedicated retro handheld without moving up to the pricier newer models.

Even before adjusting settings nothing was ever at an "unplayable framerate".
Tbf if you upscale the MK games certain effects dont work right and a weird box surrounds the base of the fighters, so you either have to deal with that or run at native. But thats a glitch with upscaling, the framerate and everything else is perfect.

It includes a couple android pack in games I never touched, but for emulation games you are 100% on your own.

The PS2 emulator isnt on the list and has to be installed yourself, that was a pain. Every other emulator I have installed myself has been easy.

If they listed this as fees or whatever, it would be shady but legal. But they are branding this as sales tax and likely pocketing the difference which is illegal (it would make no sense to over-collect sales tax by such a significant amount if the seller plans to remit that entire amount to the state. It just makes their pricing less competitive.)
Some states allow you to file a form with the state to ask for a refund of excess sales tax paid, but that sounds like a huge pain and who knows the likelihood of actually getting a refund.
