ARRMA's Typhon GROM 223S BLX is a small-scale brushless buggy that stands out for upgraded hardware and strong performance in a compact package. The brushless version adds all metal diffs and metal shocks, and the included battery and charger make the bundle feel better value than the bare car. Its size is truly small, with an 8 inch wheelbase and 12 inch overall length, yet it can still reach speeds around 40 mph. The main cautions are the usual RC realities, with LiPo safety, frequent parts replacement under hard use, and enough speed to cause injury or damage. It is a capable little platform if you are ready for the hobby side of it.

Common Questions (5)

  • The bundle is described as a great deal even after a price increase, especially because it includes the battery and charger. Some buyers also note the price returned to normal, but still found it worth buying with cashback or extra discounts.

  • It can need parts often, especially with hard driving or kids using it. Common wear or breakage points mentioned are axles, gears, control arms, shock towers, and ring gears, so basic repair skills help keep the hobby going.

  • It can run on 2S with power limiting, which should greatly reduce breakage risk. 3S is likely to cause parts to break, and even on 2S the car can still reach around 40 mph and can hurt someone or damage property.

  • Yes if you need those accessories, because the included-battery version is described as the better deal versus buying the car without them. The brushless version also adds upgraded parts over the brushed model, including all-metal diffs and metal shocks.

  • It has an 8-inch wheelbase and about 12 inches overall length, which is much smaller than a typical 1/8-scale buggy at roughly 13-inch wheelbase and 20-inch overall length. It is a true small-scale RC, not just a slightly shorter 1/8 car.

Where is the one without a battery cheaper, I see the one without battery being $210.00
They just raised the price of that one. I bought it earlier today for cheaper than the OP bundle. But the bundle is still an amazing deal.

I wish the ESC & receiver weren't combined but this is a fair deal for what you get.

looks cool and awesome.

Always wanted one as a teen back in 1992/1993 but no money.
at 49 years old still wanted one. but afraid it will lead me into rabbit hole....

back in 2024 I got a DJI mini 3 drone from a SD deal $425. march 2026 I just added my the cost of being sucked into the hobby. at ~$12,500 spent. between the different drones, parts, accessories and certifications and joining flight clubs etc..

MUST RESIST!

Good for a 4 year old?
Get them an RC speedboat. Less likely to break and still fun to drive in a pond or lake.

I do agree, but am willing to accept it on the groms. But the 2in1 on the 1/10 223s is inexcusable, I still like arrma, but stuff like this makes them hard to recommend.

Price seems back to normal, I grabbed one, I had an extra $10 off by using discover cashback, that mixed with the amount of cashback I used, was just too easy to justify.

I already have the brushed version that I upgraded to brushless. But now my son can run one with me.

Nothing against this RC at all (I own one), but even with just a 2S, the kids are likely to break this thing every time it goes out. Axles, gears, control arms, shock towers... Be prepared to get comfortable with replacing parts often. Just the nature of the hobby, especially with kids driving. If you don't break it, you're not playing hard enough.
i have dozens. the arrma products are built to a different level. try em out.
