This was easy to install and works great for 2 years thus far, but I'm annoyed by how things are scheduled. I'm in the desert with changing water restrictions throughout the year and major changes in weather and it just doesn't seem to be easy to get schedules set the way I want them or to SCHEDULE an extra watering easily. Once schedules are set it's largely fine, but seems like I have to work against it to get what I want. Don't know if any of the other systems are easier in this regard.

Favorite thing though is being able to turn any zone on/off from my phone. Makes it so much easier to do testing and repairs.

Paid $130 for it from Costco in 2023 during a sale. But considering everything, $150 is actually a good price. Zero issues with mine since install.

Had mine running about the same as others who've commented on here, 2 years. Integrates nicely with home assistant too, so you can implement your own weather station or soil humidity sensors.

Check your local jurisdictions for possible rebates on sprinkler controllers. I was able to get $150 back on my purchase, making it close to free.

I've tried scheduling an extra watering and found it to be simply not possible. Aside from that, mine has been running solid for 7 years with zero issues.

Question: We moved into a house with an installed, older sprinkler system. How can I determine if the old controller can be replaced with this one? Would I use a sprinkler company to install it? Thanks.

You can review the installation video at Rachio site.

You can also call Rachio customer service and they will help you identify and rewire the zones to this new controller. You take a picture, send them and they will talk you through rewiring.

If you are handy you should be able to do this yourself. Hope that helps.

I've had my Rachio for years and love it. Like the others, I live in the desert and would love to bump up the daily auto watering but I can't. So once a day during the summer I manually run my zones to sneak more water in.

You will also want to buy the optional "flow meter" so the Rachio knows when water is flowing and how much. Mine has been invaluable for finding leaks immediately and helping me identify issues.

I had same scenario, it should work. Install was a breeze.

Pretty crazy how they moved all remote access functions behind a subscription then pretty much disappeared.

Had a chance to buy this vs a Rainmachine years ago and went with the Rainmachine. Now Rainmachine requires a subscription to use remotely. Guess my gamble didn't pay off. Does this one require a subscription as well?
