Box end wrenches like this that don't have a switch can get you into trouble.

If you're not paying attention, you can back a nut or bolt off to a point where something above / behind the wrench limits travel. You can't take the wrench off because of the obstruction. And you can't tighten the faster because the wrench only works one way. You're basically screwed at that point.

They got all that leverage length, but still went with 12 point end on it. Now you can strip your nuts and bolts with ease!

This isn't for rounded or damaged bolts. It's for hard to reach areas. A quality 12 point won't round off a fastener as easy as some people think.

I've done plenty of work, and it is not hard to round off a "fastener". As a ham fisted DIYer I prefer a 6 point. I don't need help rounding a bolt or nut. Maybe where you don't have a ton of room to swing a 12 point may make a difference, but there is no excuse on the ratchet side as you can finagle it as you needed. The tightest spot I've worked was replacing a water pump on a Scion XD where there was maybe 1.5" of clearance. No 12 point was needed.

That's one of the reasons you should get the flex-head version of this.

Flex head isn't going to help you in the scenario he is describing.

This is more of an internet problem, than a real world problem.

In real life, if you were in such a tight spot, you would be quite aware of how much backing room you have (because the flange bolt itself might not have enough room to back out).

....and if somehow in real life you got yourself stuck, you would cut/grind/sawzall the shaft on the ratcheting wrench, leaving the head behind. Then later bench weld the head back on while everyone in the shop snickers at you .

He's trying to say that you can remove the Pivot Bolt from the flex joint, leaving just the head behind.

Easier than cutting off the head, but IRL flex head ratcheting wrenches are always the last tool I choose for a task.
