If you're not paying attention, you can back a nut or bolt off to a point where something above / behind the wrench limits travel. You can't take the wrench off because of the obstruction. And you can't tighten the faster because the wrench only works one way. You're basically screwed at that point.

And you can't tighten the faster because the wrench only works one way. You're basically screwed at that point.
This isn't for rounded or damaged bolts. It's for hard to reach areas. A quality 12 point won't round off a fastener as easy as some people think.

In real life, if you were in such a tight spot, you would be quite aware of how much backing room you have (because the flange bolt itself might not have enough room to back out).
....and if somehow in real life you got yourself stuck, you would cut/grind/sawzall the shaft on the ratcheting wrench, leaving the head behind. Then later bench weld the head back on while everyone in the shop snickers at you .

Easier than cutting off the head, but IRL flex head ratcheting wrenches are always the last tool I choose for a task.
