The Era 100 stands out as a compact Sonos speaker that sounds bigger than its size, with real bass and easy whole home audio use. Refurbished units have arrived sealed or in pristine condition, and the Sonos refurb packaging and full 2 year warranty add confidence. The USB C port can be used with Sonos' line in adapter to hook up a record player, though the turntable needs a built in or added preamp. For home theater surrounds, it works best as a paired set, while the Era 300 is mainly the step up for Atmos and larger rooms.
Common Questions (4)
The Era 100 is smaller and is often the better fit for basic music in normal-sized rooms, while the Era 300 is larger and can be overkill for many spaces. The Era 300 has upfiring speakers for Atmos content, so it has an advantage for Atmos-heavy listening.
Certified refurbished Era 100 units can arrive sealed or in pristine condition, with packaging that looks premium and the speaker operating like new. They also come with a full 2-year warranty.
Yes, the Era 100 can be used with Sonos' USB-C to Line Out adapter, but the record player needs a built-in preamp or an external preamp added. Once connected, it can feed audio into the Sonos system for whole-home playback.
No, Sonos surrounds are paired as a stereo pair, so a single Era 100 cannot be linked as a home-theater surround. A single unit still works well as a standalone speaker, and a second Era 100 can be added later to form surrounds with the Arc.

But you could also be referring to the S1 / S2 problem where they wanted to be able to fully utilize the added RAM and processing power in the newer generation devices but the old S1 devices did not have enough RAM to physically load the S2 firmware so they at first threatened to EOL all the S1 devices, but instead created an alternate firmware that continued to work on S1 devices but means that you can't combine S1 and S2 devices on the same app. In the end, they never bricked any devices under this plan and all those devices continue to work as sold.
And I can pair it with s2 devices I in the app, too. All the stuff that people knock on sonos for on the terrible app roll out a few years ago has been long since corrected. If you don't sonos that is fine, but no need to spread disinformation.
