But you could also be referring to the S1 / S2 problem where they wanted to be able to fully utilize the added RAM and processing power in the newer generation devices but the old S1 devices did not have enough RAM to physically load the S2 firmware so they at first threatened to EOL all the S1 devices, but instead created an alternate firmware that continued to work on S1 devices but means that you can't combine S1 and S2 devices on the same app. In the end, they never bricked any devices under this plan and all those devices continue to work as sold.
And I can pair it with s2 devices I in the app, too. All the stuff that people knock on sonos for on the terrible app roll out a few years ago has been long since corrected. If you don't sonos that is fine, but no need to spread disinformation.
