I'm not sure if I'm the only one who's noticed this trend of manufacturers offering affordable 27" 1440p IPS monitors lately. What a time to be alive...

Best Buy has the Mini LED version of this for $179, way better. Just picked it up today and it's insanely bright with good black leveled due to local dimming zones with the MINI LED
Why do people care so much about brightness? Displays usually seem too bright, I always turn them down and enable dark mode. Maybe it's a gaming thing.

I'm wondering if maybe most people use their computers in rooms with a lot of ambient lighting? Certainly the brightness would be justified if you are in a room with a window facing the sun or something, but I always thought the majority of people use their PCs in low light or even dark rooms. 300 nits is probably fine in most cases at max brightness but maybe people like the standard of 500 nits just to have that option to go even brighter.

Proper HDR is amazing. When it's just on bright details or highlights, it's a game changer. If your just using it for browsing or productivity, not a big deal.

Different strokes for different folks. Not all eyes are the same.

If so, that's not IPS. It's VA.
