Some 9000 series CPUs have had problems on X870(E) motherboards when PBO is turned on, it seems to be from the voltage curves being too high and they end up with scorch marks on the CPU, while killing them. It hasn't been seen on 7000 series, or lower chipsets, and is fairly rare even when it does happen. Asrock has been the worst culprit, but not the only mobo manufacturer to have problems.

Honestly an absolute beast of a cpu for the price. It's so overlooked because it s a MicroCenter exclusive so many never even heard of it but it's great. Low watt, high performance

Was first seen on Asrock motherboards. They since updated their boards and it should be ok now. ASUS is top headline now.

What GPU are you using, what resolution and refresh rate do you typically play at, and what kind of games do you play? If you're heavily GPU bound already you'll likely see no performance difference.

If you use your PC for mixed workloads, the 9600x is faster in non-gaming tasks because it clocks substantially higher in single and multi-core workloads. Even the 7600X and 7600 will be faster in non-gaming workloads due to higher clock speeds. This CPU only makes sense when building strictly for gaming.

This is an exclusive gaming machine. RTX 5070 GPU. Mix couch co-op and single player games such as Outer Wilds, Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Expedition 33, Elden ring, etc.
Just don't know if it is worth the hassle of tearing the machine down again just for a few more FPS. I will probably end up running it for a while and revisiting a potential x3D upgrade maybe when AM5 gets toward EOL.
