TVs are too quickly advancing of a technology year-to-year to invest this kind of money into one.

A $1000 TV from today absolutely demolishes a $1000 TV from 2016.

Why invest 20 grand after taxes into a TV right now that will feel obsolete (by high end standards) in 2032?

You mean $1k TV today demolishes a $10k TV from 2016 right?

TVs will be obsolete once they implant an AI chip in your eyelids

A G5 will not be obsolete in 2030. Maybe 2035. I've had a 2015 model year LG OLED since 2016 and it is still a great TV that I regularly get complimented on. I also just bought a G5 and it's really not that dramatic of an upgrade. This TV is crazy expensive but it's not going to need replacing anytime soon.

I don't know, if the $15k cost is worth upgrade over a 98" TCL QM8K. Maybe 2K more would sell, but as the owner of 4 LG OLED tvs, and an older TCL 98" TV, there is a difference, but not a $15k difference and the new QM8K is dang close to the OLED for most viewing.

How many people dropping 20k on a TV are particularly worried about their ability to buy another TV 6 years from now?

By high-end enthusiast standards and how rapidly that goalpost moves from year-to-year, the G5 will absolutely be "obsolete" in that sense by 2032. Obviously not to a casual everyday person though.

The EG9600 is still a great TV. You're comparing and edge lit TV to an premium OLED. New OLEDs are brighter, which is their biggest gain, but we are far past the point of diminishing returns. This is especially true in 2025 vs 10 years ago. TV tech has so far outpaced the content quality we can use it for. People aren't gaming above 165 fps, and if you are, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway. Streaming compression is awful. They aren't even making 4k blurays anymore. The next 10 years won't have any meaningful gains in pictures quality. It will just be filled with TV manufacturers shoving AI bullshit down our throats.
