I initially skipped an espresso grinder and only got mediocre espresso shots from a Baratza Virtuoso. Switched to a DF54 grinder for espresso and the same coffee, when dialed in, made excellent espresso.

This machine has three advantages over the regular bambino.
1. The milk frother... don't get me wrong, you can do as good as a job with froth with non plus version, but this version... supposedly a dummy can do it vers it takes a little skill to make with the original.
2. It has this thing where it will take all the water out of the pucks and it leaves the pucks more dry. The original leaves a very thin layer of water on the very top of the puck after you pull your shots. So the Plus has a 3-way Solenoid Valve which makes the pucks dryer and the regular has no 3 way valve.
3. The water tank is slightly bigger with the plus model.
Both machines use the exact same mechanism to make coffee and they both should make an identical shoot.
I personally do not use the frother because the clean up IMHO, is not worth it. So I put a little milk in a cup and mic it. My brother does the same thing BUT he actually then uses a small hand held frothing machine. Any wand on a espresso machine is a real bitch to keep clean.
So for someone that will never use the frother... I don't see the point of getting the plus version just so the puck is more dry and more space in the water resevoir
Other differences... that are meaningless IMHO.
1. Tapper tool is metal for the plus and plastic for the regular.
2. 6.3" wide is the regular and 7.7" wide for the plus.
3. Drip Tray is bigger on the plus due to it being a wider machine.

I normally do 19g in the basket. You need to settle on a weight in the basket to be uniform before you worry about grind size.
