I abandoned my electronic stud finders a long time ago. Way too frustrating to use and expensive. Now I only use magnetic stud finders like these.

I use the CH Hansen one and well as the electronic one. Magnetic ones are awesome.

Course the magnet kind can't detect power in the wall.(Wires). Guess these electronic ones are great at it either though but something to help keep from hitting a wire.

I hate my unreliable electronic stud finders, but to verify, you can bring a small gauge long nail and hammer to check whether you've found a stud, or not.
