This Triplett ET200 is a passive line splitter and GFCI outlet tester that is mainly useful for safely connecting a clamp meter while checking outlets. The price is called out as good, and the 5 15 plug means it is a 15 amp device interface. The main limitation is that it is just a socket tester, not a standalone meter, and the 15 amp rating can be a mismatch for setups built around 20 amp receptacles. It is a handy niche tool if you need that meter connection.

  • The device is described as a passive socket tester meant for safely connecting meters.

  • The tester's visual indicators and GFCI socket testing can support quick outlet checks.

  • The tester can be a handy accessory for use with a clamp multimeter.

  • The 15A limit can relate to the maximum amperage of the appliance used for testing.

  • The listing may not include a clamp multimeter, since it is described as only an outlet tester.

  • The tester is rated for a maximum 15A, so results may vary with 20A receptacles in local code.

  • The device is described as a socket tester rather than a clamp-meter current measurement tool.

  • Digital power meters may offer more capability than this device for many use cases.

In order to make it a perfect tool, they can add a live voltage "beeper" (with a on/off switch) like the Fluke tester I already have. Then it can be used for finding circuit breaker as well.

This is just a socket tester. The Tripplett that was posted also allows you to use your clamp meter to measure current.

I believe that's referencing the maximum amperage of the appliance you plug into it to test. Not the rating of the receptacle itself.

FWIW there are a bunch of digital power meters on Amazon for $10 normal price, which are probably more capable than this for many use cases https://a.co/d/0db8TJMQ
