Go to Apple.com, scroll to bottom, click on "shop for college". You'll get the M5 15inch air for $1199. No verification or anything required it might as well be the official price.
Why wouldn't anyone pay $100 extra for the M5 chip that has 40% higher GPU score than the M4, and double the SSD/memory speeds? Retarded people like to find excuses for their bad purchase choices rather than get smart. The reality is if they were cost conscious, they'd bought during BF when Amazon had 20% off warehouse deals when you could've gotten a 216GB 15inch Air in Like New for about $760.
Basically this is a terrible deal. If this was $999 I might give it a second thought.

The performance difference between the M5 and M4 is roughly 15-20%. Assuming a 15% difference, M4 should be $1,105 ($1,300 less 15%). Since the M4 is last year's model, and if apply a modest 10% depreciation, that brings the M4's value to $995. In my opinion, A truly good deal requires at least an additional 10% discount, making the net price $895. This one not looking too good mathematically.

Why wouldn't someone pay an extra $150 for the newest model?
Genuinely asking because I don't own a MacBook yet!

Is the newest MacBook Air worth the extra $150?

The 15" M5 air is 1299. But for same money as M5 they can get 24gb ram. The extra ram is more compelling imo. But that depends on what you're using it for.

What I'm seeing on Amazon - 2025 M4 16GB 512GB for $1100 vs 2026 M5 16GB 512GB for $1250.

Are you referring to the 13" model with 16/512?

With the m5 out there, this should be 799 or less

Need(want) an Apple laptop 13-14" screen size with 16gb or greater and would spend up to $850. I know it's a pipe dream right now.

I normally wouldn't have bought a NEO and been completely fine for our household use but we recently purchased an Instacam X5 360 and it requires quite a bit for any editing. I was looking at Windows laptops but seems like they need at least 24gh otherwise with the 16gb it often becomes slower.
