In the exploded picture it looked like an ESP module so i check the FCCID and the internal images do indeed show a ESP8684-WROOM-03. I believe it's a 2Mb flash version but Tasmota should work on it. I'm in for a pair to see.

Wait, is there a way to reflash these? Do you simulate an OTA upgrade?

Don't know for sure. If it is an esp8684 then yes. OTA, maybe. Serial flash, definitely. I can't say for sure until i get it open. I'm not holding my breath that it actually has an ESP inside. Chinese manufacturers loves to cheapen things after getting the FCC approved.

They are ESP based and Tasmota compatible but requires work.
The Soc is an ESP8684-WROOM-03-H2.
The case can be opened without totally destroying it but you will damage it since it's plastic welded. I got mine back together with super glue and heating it up to smooth out pry marks.
I desoldered the module and flashed it using esptool.py with tasmota32c2_2M.factory.bin from https://github.com/Jason2866/Tasm...a32/other/. You can solder to tx/rx/vcc and gpio9 without removing it but it's tight.

why would you want to do that? What are the advantages of the flashed version over the product as is?

You're not relying on unknown servers which could go down at any time. You're not trusting an unknown company with your wifi/password. You don't have a Chinese made magic box behind your firewall which can be program and updated to do whatever they want without you knowing. It will work without Internet. You can change it, upgrade it, fix it and control it.
