Price, if at under $150. The 9600X will run cooler at the same performance, but the markup isn't worth it. You can set the 7600X in BIOS to run cooler too, but loose a bit of performance. AMD had a bad idea to run the 7000 series full tilt, claiming the 90+ degree temps were no worry (they were). They corrected for the 9000 series.
Same price at microcenter if you got one close by and don't want to wait on shipping. The 9600x is also $10 more at microcenter.
This is 127 for me after coupon. I have nothing to run this with. Rip. My 5700x is still good. So sucks to suck but I won't be upgrading until a couple of years from now.
Seriously though, these are must clear inventory before prices drop sales. The 9600X is going to see drops as soon as the 250K Plus makes inventory, leaving little time for this 7600X to stay at $160.
It showed $199 earlier today for me, now $159, but no coupon. 20% less would make it a buy for a few customer builds though, too bad the mothership is playing targeted games.

$158.99 for me with no coupon. This is a decent price, but Amazon currently has the 9600x on sale for $181.95. The 9600X is about 10% faster and much more power efficient using only 65W versus 105W for the 7600X. For me the extra $23 seems like the better buy.

I didnt get a coupon from Amazon so price at $159 - Microcenter as of last night in my area is listing the 7600x at 229, and the 7600x3d they used to have on sale for 200 is back up close to 320 yuck.
So glad Slickdeals has me conditioned to buy now regret later I don't miss out on as many deal prices this way!

Agree to an extent - because that is how I usually operate. But in the case of current time - chip prices are going back up and AMD and Intel have both stated they will likely keep it that way for the foreseeable future. So I have stuck with limiters unless the difference is big enough.
Last night I made the same decision of getting the 7600X and not the 9600X mainly because I had to work within a budget for a build - $20 here versus $20 on a better motherboard or better CPU cooler, or a better PSU etc.
So if you can afford the aded $10 or 20 - go for the 9600X slickdealers! If you are balling on a strict budget this 7600X will get you just as far and is still a solid option.
