Ive never used a mechanical keyboard was originally looking at the v1 max, but this sale is intriguing. Would the Q1 Pro or K2 be a good option? I don't game would be for work on mainly a mac

Q1 pro is a solid option, but at $100 it's a bit overpriced in my opinion. I've got a decent collection of boards, and for $100 I can get a few options including more custom with different switches and keycaps.
But for a starter, keychron is an easy no brainer option. Plus they are customizable as well. It's just the initial price of $100 vs say $50-60 on a barebones kit.

I would strongly consider the K3 Ultra Slim Brown Keys.
thanks for suggestion. What does ultra slim mean in terms of the typing experience? Are they just shorter keys
The slim keys are a shorter cap with also a shorter press. My wife wanted a keyboard with low profile keys, wireless, and mechanical, which ended up tough to find. She really likes the K5 with banana keys we bought.
For a first time mechanical keyboard user, I would also recommend brown keys, they will be the most normal feeling key coming from a membrane keyboard. Also make sure you get the layout you need, a lot of mechanical keyboards are meant for gaming so they are only a partial layout. If you need a 10-key for work you want to make sure you get a full size layout.

Still have a full size k4 keychron and imo, theyre the most over rated m-keyboards out there. Why is it so beloved? I think i got one with brown swtiches and its just does not feel that great, especially the cheap keycaps they use.
The chinese branded one I am using now just feels so much better, softer switches, the keycaps does not feel like cheap plastic and it was only like $50.
just an FYI, I hate my Keychron keyboard when it's in bluetooth mode. Goes to sleep within 5 minutes of inactivity, takes 20+seconds to wake up, battery can't make it past more than a couple days. I end up using it attached with a cable at all times.

You could do a lot worse.

Now they are priced at the reasonable expectation + price level
