Question is there a way to extend the layover in Korea to more than a day and still be able to fly to Japan with this deal?

This is basic economy, the most limiting fare available.

The baggage might be YMMV? I am seeing 2 checked bags.

1 personal item
Fits under the seat in front of you

Included

1 carry-on bag
7.9 x 15.8 x 21.7 inches ยท Max weight 22.1 lbs

Included

2 checked bags
Max weight 50.7 lbs

Included

Edit - nm, was thinking the commenter above me only saw 1 bag on booking.com.

Asiana is usually 2 checked bags for economy on this flight, maybe this is some kinda super basic economy. Once flew economy with them and I have never seen so much luggage come off a plane. A380 is just massive and the passengers on these flights usually max out their luggage.

Layovers are quite long FYI. Total transit times are 21h there and 33h back. If you want to go somewhere in Seoul during the second layover it may work, but personally I'd rather spend a little more and not go this route.

Hold up, if your main destination is Korea, wouldn't this be cheaper to just book this flight and just never get on the flight to Japan?

Asiana imposes a no-show penalty up to $500 if you skip a flight

Okay nevermind Big Grin (didn't know there was such a thing as a no-show penalty)

You could, but then you run the risk of Asiana denying your flight back home and/or putting you on their no fly list because airlines aren't fans of skiplaggers.

Sapporo is a cool city. I've been twice now and it's one of my favorite places to visit in Japan

Airlines have caught on to this practice so they've all just about implemented policies to prevent it
