I remember I was in 2nd grade in the 1970s when my teacher told us to buckle down and learn metric because Congress had passed a law and we'd all be switching over soon...
In some weird way, maybe the failure to switch has had some minor beneficial effect on Americans, by forcing us to perform conversions in our heads. Nah, probably not.

I'm just starting to get into DIY projects & tools. It's baffling how needlessly complicated imperial/SAE is compared to metric.

I have noticed that people from metric countries tend not to be as good with fractions. So there's one benefit.

I'm decent with fractions but can't we all agree that 5/16 is bizarre?

I've noticed that people from countries with developed infrastructure tend not to be as good at washing their clothes on rocks down at the river, but I don't think many people would advocate that we rip out all our freshwater plumbing for a minuscule benefit
