The best price for this expansion, since in the US it costs 19.99 USD.
You know the drill: create, or if you already have, an Amazon Japan account, add a Japanese address (it doesn't matter which address), and then buy the expansion. I used my chase card with no issues.
Then just briefly change your Switch 2 region to Japan on the website when you receive the download code in your email (around March 24 or 25), and redeem the code from the Japanese eShop and that's it… chin chang pou!

No need to switch regions after redeeming it, I've tested this with previous items and it works just fine. Once redeemed and downloaded, it remains fully accessible in English without ever needing to switch regions again

I mean… If I ever got a new switch, I had to reset my switch, etc. I would still have to connect to the Japanese store to download this again?

Thanks OP. Any risk of getting banned or anything?

No DLC are region restricted ony to redeem them not to download or play 'em, thus, it will stick to your acc regardless of what region are you in playing or downloading it.

No, the games you redeemed are tied to your Nintendo acc regardless of the location, any region changes are allowed per their policy and no report of bans has ever been issued for complete games or upgrade packs like this one

If a game is region locked, the region of the DLC might need to match the region of the game. This might work differently depending on whether the game is digital or physical as well.
Can someone please verify that they have successfully loaded the game with a North American version of the game and a Japanese version of the DLC?

I'm sure it's very low risk, but I'm not sure I want to risk getting my account banned over $8 bucks.

Just got the code and it tells me I'm not in the right region. I've tried both web site and on Switch 2 after switching to Japan region.

I see the issue:

It is not possible to change the country/region setting for this Nintendo Account or account for a child. Please check the following.
Do you have an outstanding Nintendo eShop balance? While you have funds remaining, it is not possible to change your country/region setting.

Well that was a waste of money. I do have an eshop balance so cannot redeem it.

Sony was the first one to block this and make it a ban offense. Xbox recently followed suit by removing the ability to redeem via VPN, though I used it heavily there prior to that and they didnt care. Nintendo I wouldnt trust to be as lenient. They typically just straight ban and allow only a one time lift of the ban. Steam I believe can also catch you and ban you, thoughi think they are more case by case.

Definitely not worth the attempt imo.

You're absolutely right, and in the case of Mario Wonder, every copy sold in the country is the "international" or "multi-region" version, so mismatches really shouldn't be an issue in most cases

I see what you mean, even though redemption is possible. I've never personally encountered this issue since I don't use eShop balance, so I was not aware of this limitation

You might be able to create a new Nintendo account (or temporarily change the region of an existing one without a balance), and then use that account to own and download this DLC. As long as that account has the "Virtual Game Card" installed on your Switch, any account on that Switch can play it.
