I really miss the days when it was easy to swap out crappy factory head units for awesome radios with 5 volt preouts. I actually have this Alpine head unit in my 2010 hunt camp Explorer and it's pretty solid.

You'll have to pry my combo CD/tape deck from my old truck out of my cold dead hands. I just removed the whip antenna and use an FM broadcaster to give it cell media. Works surprisingly well, especially considering I've been using the same no name Amazon one since about 2020. Added benefit to me is when you turn off the car to run into a store you don't have to reselect the input like I've had to do with every Bluetooth compatible factory radio I've had since 😂
Love FM broadcasters: SQ ain't great, but it's reliable! Just be careful you don't get in trouble with the FCC. Those FM broadcasters are often more powerful and advertised.

Does the faceplate come with a case so I can remove it and carry around wherever I go?

I may be strange, but it's got to have HD Radio if I'm going through the trouble of swapping head units. Most of those extra channels are commercial-free, and some include my AM news/talk stations.

I remember mounting a FM converter to my 1972 Plymouth, then upgrading the OEM radio to awesome 8-track deck.

I don't understand... why buy a car headunit if it did not have Android Auto... a screen for navigation, etc...

Many single din decks have the ability to pull out a screen and have Android Auto. I think anyone who buys this is making a mistake.

P.S.
I have after market radios in all my cars for over 20 years and 20 years ago I did have a high end Alpine single deck... and... I regretted it.

Here is an example of what I am talking about...

Thieves will steal this? and put it in what, their carbureted muscle car from the 70's. those car guys have enough $$ for a hi-end system and a real car alarm/ security system "protected by Smith and Wesson"
