I really miss the days when it was easy to swap out crappy factory head units for awesome radios with 5 volt preouts. I actually have this Alpine head unit in my 2010 hunt camp Explorer and it's pretty solid.

Does it play the dolphin scene on the display?

Yes, I know it's not a touch screen. Special use case for much older vehicles or if you want to be fancy and use it as a receiver and sit a iPad in front of it.

Nowadays you gotta read schematics or pray that someone makes a harness for it then you have to go to a lineout converter or a DSP then to an amp

Looks like unreliable Bluetooth is the biggest complaint. Not the alpine quality of the past. But for $68 maybe take a chance.

You'll have to pry my combo CD/tape deck from my old truck out of my cold dead hands. I just removed the whip antenna and use an FM broadcaster to give it cell media. Works surprisingly well, especially considering I've been using the same no name Amazon one since about 2020. Added benefit to me is when you turn off the car to run into a store you don't have to reselect the input like I've had to do with every Bluetooth compatible factory radio I've had since 😂

Just put one of these in a couple days ago. I personally haven't seen whatever Bluetooth reliability issues that were mentioned but it's only had a few hours of play time on it so far. There's really nothing special about this but so far it just works. At this price it's an easy buy. At full price, I would spend a little more and get something with better eq features. No comments on call quality yet as I haven't tried that.

Life hack. Use crutchfield to check if your car needs a computer with your aftermarket stereo. They will also tell you about the harness. FYI if you never bought from them, they will send you teardown Instructions for your specific vehicle and have good phone support, also good presales. (Their prices are usually legit too, no super high mark-up).

If want a clean higher end car system you can bypass the stock electronics entirely.

Auto thief specials. Had a bunch stolen from my cars even pull out and faceplate removal ones and they just take bracket and harness.
