I've been eyeing this for a few days now. With rumored price increases coming for both AMD and Intel this may be the last chance to upgrade my CPU for a while.
Bear in mind that for pure gaming, the 9800x3d or 9850x3d is better.
For mixed workloads this one is better, but it's weird-it's a jack of all trades but master of none due to it being a 2x6 core design with only one of 6 core blocks having access to the 3d v-cache. But if you want a 9950x3d you're gonna have to shell out almost $700 for one.
if it was just over $400 I think it'd be a no-brainer. At $450…. I dunno.

I was just saying the same thing to my girlfriend today about getting a CPU sooner than later before they get jacked up. Damn glad now that I bought a AM5 MB that came with free RAM Christmas 2024. That free RAM goes for almost $500 now.

I upgraded to am5 when Trump first started his tariff BS, so I got lucky with a pretty decent deal then. I hadn't PLANNED on doing it bc my 5700x3D was doing ok. I ended up missing the boat on RAM later though Frown
I have a 9600X and no issues-I primarily play older games anyway. But the x3d cache of this one supposedly helps with performance if using higher latency RAM and the extra cores and boost clock would be nice 🤔

This is the worst x3d chip just FYSA if you weren't already aware. With only 6 cores per CCD and only one CCD with 3Dvcache your greeting gaming performance worse than 9800x3d.
