Another one of those tools you don't need often, but makes life a whole lot easier when you do have them. Also comes in handy in tight spots, as this setup is shallower than traditional ratchet and sockets.

Most similar sets come with an extension that's a couple inches long (look at Pittsburgh or similar). I used one recently to tighten a strut nut while holding the center stud with a 1/4" ratchet/socket and probably couldn't have done it without that extension. I'm sure this one is very high quality but those other brands might be able to do more with that extension.

You would think GearWrench would provide a case. This; pass through type of set is extremely useful IMO. I have a set of craftsman max axess I picked up when Sears was discounting all their goods that now brings a premium price on ebay.

Hmmm I wonder if it is better to use this or a ratcheting wrench set.

This can likely handle more torque than a ratchet wrench.

it could be hard to expand the set or replace if missing one, i will stay with regular ratcheting wrench set until this kind becomes more mainstream.

This is more versatile, because it's like having the deepest socket set ever made AND a lower profile than a regular socket set.

You will need a pass through extension though:

The Craftsman Max Axxcess, Crescent X6, and Kobalt Flex-thru all are interchangeable with the Gearwrench. There are dozens of compatible brands that have a passthru line, secretly made by Gearwrench.

I have had this set for a couple of years, now. It is very handy, when needed. It is also easier to spin around, like on bicycle wheels, due to the low profile. A regular ratchet wobbles more and throws off the balance.

@vid1900 how does this Jeuclel branded set compare to Gearwrench? It includes an extension and case at only $5 more. https://a.co/d/04CURUVI

I've never heard of that brand, and Amazon says "frequently returned item", so it does not look too promising.

It uses a different style of sockets, that appear to be copies of the Astro Pneumatic; so if you like that style, I'd just get the real thing with a lifetime warranty (for a couple of bucks more):

Thanks @vid1900. I'm a newb at this and only need it to change automotive strut nut and a pass through socket set was recommended. I'm not partial to that type of socket. I looked at the Pittsburgh set and that might do nicely. And keep me <$30
