I never use a pass through before, is the sockets after inserting into the pass through solid? Or does it easily slip out

contrary to the other responder, there are indeed NO replacement bare sockets sold for this. Further, both the craftsman and the kobalt re-brands they mentioned haven't been sold in a long time.
Both Gearwrench and Crescent x6 (which is indeed the same spline drive) do list these pass-through's as a current product on their web sites HOWEVER even gearwrench who appears to be the "lead" producer doesn't sell any individual sockets.
otherwise, a good quality set for a basic tool kit.
it's worth noting that the HF (pittsburgh) set uses hex-drive, and is cheaper than this with lifetime warranty. I don't know how HF handles warranty exchange for pittsburgh branded stuff, but they are (I hear) great for icon and doyle)

The Gearwrench pass thru sockets are available individually in chrome finish:

https://www.toolsource.com/index....nch+vortex

There still are even some individual sockets of common sizes on Sears.com for the Craftsman:

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-3...929239000P

And hundreds of carded individual sizes on ebay.

So personally I'm not too worried that I can get a replacement socket for any brand, but you can always mix and match if you are not too anal about your set matching...

In the Gearwrench and Astro P made ratchets, there is a circular retention ring spring that firmly holds the socket in place.

Man prices have gone up for Gearwrench stuff. I got a 74+ piece set a few years ago that's metric and standard, 1/4" and 3/8" with 2 socket wrenches, extensions, and a case for $29.99.

it could be hard to expand the set or replace if missing one, i will stay with regular ratcheting wrench set until this kind becomes more mainstream.
These have been out for a very long time. I have pass through sets that are at least 15 years old. They're great for nuts on long bolts, or all thread, or anywhere clearance is tight as they're typically shallower than any conversational ratchet/socket, but with more contact area than a ratcheting wrench.

Pass-through is a fairly specialized piece of kit... this isn't your standard ratchet+socket setup. Apples & oranges.

Never wanted one of these until I did certain master cylinders. But you don't really need it you can take an old wrench heat it up, bend it just a little in your voice and just go eighth a turn at a time......

Since most people get these never use them I picked them up at a flea market for about nothing.
