The Winix C535 is a long running True HEPA purifier that stands out for durability, strong filtration, and simple operation. The prefilter catches a lot of dust and helps protect the HEPA, and the larger Filter A cartridges are said to last well and often go on sale. The C535 also avoids the C545 WiFi feature, which is described as unnecessary, while matching it on air cleaning, noise, and power use. The main cautions are filter compatibility, since C535 and C545 filters are not interchangeable, and some units can develop motor noise after years of heavy use. A solid pick if you want a proven, no frills purifier with the right filters on hand.
people who want a Winix that can run almost 24/7 for years because one buyer says their C535 has been running nearly 24x7 for 7+ years and is still working perfectly.
homeowners who already know they need "Filter A" for the C535 because commenters say C535 uses Filter A/21 and the filters are not interchangeable with other models, so matching the correct filter type by model matters.
buyers who plan to keep replacing filters long-term because multiple commenters report genuine Filter A for the C535 often goes on sale ($20-$30 for about a year supply), while other Winix filter types don't see the same sale frequency.
people who don't care about Wi‑Fi smart features because commenters say the C535's performance/noise/power are essentially the same as the C545, and they specifically call the C545 Wi‑Fi unreliable/useless.
renters or DIY-minded users who want a purifier with a prefilter that helps protect the HEPA because one commenter prefers it to their Corsi boxes since the prefilter catches a lot and helps protect the HEPA.
buyers comparing this to Costco bundles because one commenter says Costco previously had the C535 on sale for $99 with two sets of filters, while this package includes only one set, so it may not be the best value versus that prior deal.
people who want to buy refurbished only if it's in great condition because a commenter says the refurb option's condition is "fair" and recommends spending the extra $35 for a new unit instead.
buyers who need a purifier that will be quiet indefinitely if they run it 24/7 because commenters report the motor can start squealing after a couple of years and becomes annoying enough to require replacement.
people who are sensitive to early reliability issues because one commenter says a related Winix model (5510) had issues since day 1 with an annoying noise, making them cautious about similar units.
buyers who want to avoid any risk of motor-bearing wear over time because a commenter reports a common issue on older Winix models where motor ball bearings can wear out and develop a grinding sound after several years.
It can run for years: one unit has been used almost 24/7 for over 7 years and still works perfectly, and several others have run 27/7 for 6+ years. A reported weak point is the motor, which can start squealing or develop bearing noise after a couple of years or several years of heavy use.
No. The C535 uses Filter A/21, while the Costco C545 uses Filter S, and they are not interchangeable. Buyers should match filters by model number before ordering replacements.
Yes. Genuine Filter A replacements often go on sale for about $20-$30 for a year supply, and Amazon pricing around $26 per set was cited. Third-party carbon and HEPA replacements are also available.
The C535 and C545 are described as having similar air-cleaning performance, fan noise, and power use, but the C545 adds Wi‑Fi. The C535 is also described as better built and more reliable long term, while the C545's Wi‑Fi is called unreliable.
The refurbished Walmart option is about $75, but its condition is listed as "fair." A new unit at $109.99 costs about $35 more and avoids the refurb condition risk.
New units reportedly include extra filters, but that may not apply to refurb units. The purifier also has a prefilter that catches a lot of debris and helps protect the HEPA filter.
Nope.. got it today.. its brand spanking new ..in a brand new sealed box... trying to attach a picture of it slickdeal not allowing me to . I will be happy to email it though to anyone interested.
What do you mean "nope?" The listing on Walmart you posted says "fair" condition /refurbished. You may have gotten lucky and gotten a "new" one but even as your initial post says, these are "refurbished." Probably should have put YMMV in your post, as when you buy something refurbished like this it's truly YMMV…
This looks like the last Gen version of the 5510. Which the 5510 placed first in project farm testing. But I read a lot of the Amazon reviews that said it didn't hold up even a year. So not sure. Lol
This is same as the older Winix 5300, 5500 models. I own one. One not that uncommon issue is the electric motor ball bearings doesn't last very long. Mine developed grinding sound after several years of use, and I traced it down to the motor bearings. There are guides in the net on how to replace those bearings (need to open the motor). However, it needed special tool and too much trouble for me, so I didn't do it. For $110, it's probably worth a gamble.
The motor in this will start squealing after a couple of years. I had one running pretty 24x7 but had to replace it due to the noise becoming annoying after awhile.
